About assistive technology equipment

One piece or a whole system of equipment can be modified or customized to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.

Equipment Loan and Reuse Program

The equipment loan and reuse program provides trial of various types of assistive technology equipment and software so that individuals with disabilities have an opportunity to test a particular device or program prior to purchase or at times when equipment is being repaired or unavailable. The reuse component of this program includes various pieces of equipment for exchange, sale or free of charge.

Equipment ATEC loans

Most of the equipment in ATEC's inventory is available to be loaned. We frequently loan voice output communication aids, keyboards, mouse-pointing devices, switches, mounting systems, and software and computers.

Loan period

The loan is between 30 to 90 days, depending on the availability of the loaned equipment. We guarantee at least 30 days for the initial loan period.

Waiting list

On occasion, there is a waiting list to borrow equipment. Equipment is loaned on a first come, first serve basis.

Loan program fees

The loan fees are based on the value of the equipment on a monthly basis.

ATEC is currently one of 13 centers across the state of California that participate in the AT Network "Exchange."

The AT Network Exchange (formally the California Assistive Technology Exchange, CATE) is a free service of the AT Network for consumers, professionals, and cargivers. Through the "Exchange" you can get AT device loans and exchange equipment (buy, sell, donate) through free want ads. AT Network also provides Information & Referral and has an AT Service Directory.
